On June 28, 2010 final court approval was given to a class action filed over five years ago. The lawsuit was on behalf of people who took out advances from Legal Bucks, LLC, a “litigation funding company,” that charged interest of over 100% per year to people with personal injury claims. As a result of the lawsuit and the decision of the North Carolina Court of Appeals the practice of lending money at these rates against personal injury lawsuits is illegal. Click here for a copy of the decision. Class members who paid interest will get part of their money back and those who owe interest will not have to pay any.
