Vance Barron Jr . Graduated from the University of North Carolina Law School in 1973, where he was the editor-in-chief of the North Carolina Law Review, a Morehead Fellow, and a member of the Order of the Coif., an academic honor society. Before entering law school, Vance saw active duty in the U.S. Navy as officer of a patrol boat in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam, for which he received the Bronze Star medal. He taught eighth grade in schools of Tanzania, East Africa, for two years as a member of the U.S. Peace Corps. He and his wife, June have two daughters, Mary Hasty and Ruth. Vance is scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 203 at the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro.
